Hugo Consuegra was a Cuban painter renown for his abstract style. Hugo Consuegra was born in Havana, Cuba in the year 1929. The artist was a member of the Group of Eleven which was formed in the early 1950s in Cuba. The group sought to bring more abstract art to Cuba.

The artist attended the University of Havana where he studied architecture.

Consuegra lived in Madrid, Spain during the late 1960s.

Consuegra relocated to New York City where in 1970. The artist would remain there until his death in 2003.
