Claude E. Millard was an American graphic designer renown for his Art Deco posters. Claude Millard was born in Los Angeles, California in the year 1887.

Below a clip from my favorite television show, the Antiques Roadshow, where we view a work by Claude Millard get appraised:

Claude Millard passed away in 1960.

The artist often worked with the transportation business developing posters depicting travel across the oceans via luxurious cruise liners. Millard also worked for one of the leading music companies, R.C.A. records developing hundreds of album cover designs for such hot selling artists Duke Ellington and George Gershwin.

What a wonderful artist! One can learn much about graphic design by studying any of the poster artists featured here. All of these artists had such a strong sense of design and bold color shapes because the printing equipment was not nearly as advanced as we have today. From a design standpoint, I was most impressed with the cloud shapes developed by the artist.
