Ye Yongqing is a Contemporary Chinese artist. Ye Yongqing was born in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China the year 1958.
Yongqing is now based out of an older city that sticks to its traditions and has strict housing regulations for newer structures, Dali, China. Its his mother’s ancestral home town.
Yongqing attended the Sichuan College of Art earning a degree in oil painting. The artist has also taught at the collegiate level as a professor at the Sichuan College of Fine Arts.
The artist is known as the “Birdman” because he often uses birds for his subject matter. In this clip many works of the artists, including birds, are shown:
Yongqing has exhibited his work in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

What I enjoy most about this artist is his use of line. Often using unusual items to draw such as a pipe with ink inside, his results are sketchy but still show he is a wonderful draftsman.
In addition birds are one of my favorite subjects. Its awesome to see how birds are represented in different cultures such as the Inuit and First Nations of Canada, the Chinese, and the African Shona artists.
