Oliver often works with water based paints such as acrylics, gouache, and watercolors.. Many of her works use the blue and green colors.
The artist coats the raw canvas with several layers of gesso. This variation in her technique makes her work different from the movement of the Color Field painters, who often used raw canvas, void of any prep work.
Below we catch up with our art loving friend James Kalm to visit a show featuring the art of Bobbi Oliver:

Oliver’s work shows great movement though the painting. The viewer gets the feeling they are watching liquids move in space. The artist does a great job at creating organic and flowing shapes.
Another great aspect of the artist is the ability to control the color green. Green and red are both difficult colors to control, but the artist does a great job at mixing a wide variety of interesting greens rather than just relying on what comes out of the tube.
