Joan Hernández Pijuan was an Spanish painter and printmaker renown for his abstract imagery. Joan Pijuan was born in Barcelona, Spain the year 1931.

Pijuan attended the Academy of the Arts located in Sant Jordi, Spain. He also attended the Academy of Art Llotja located in Barcelona.

The artist helped to found a group of like minded European artists that focused on abstraction and expression. The group was called “Groupo Silex.”

Over his lengthy career the artist also taught at the collegiate level. Eventually he even served as dean at the University of Barcelona.

Many of his landscape paintings are based on the topography of the region of Catalonia.

Joan Hernández Pijuan passed away in 2005. The artist was 74 years of age.

Price range information: The artist worked as printmaker, watercolorist, etcher, and painter in oils. Prices range from $5,000 to $200,000.

As a landscape painter and abstract artist Pijuan reminds me of the great Richard Diebenkorn.
