William Melton Halsey was an American Abstract painter. William Hasley was born in Charleston, South Carolina in the year 1915.
Halsey attended the University of South Carolina before transferring to what is now known as the School of the Museum of the Arts.
The artist was also the recipient of a fellowship that was supposed to allow him to study for two years in Europe. When he was awarded this fellowship Europe was engaged in war so Halsey moved to Mexico to study.
Halsey also taught at the collegiate level. He and other artists formed their own school called the Charleston Art School. Halsey went on to found the studio program at the College of Charleston where he taught for nearly two decades.
One student of Halsey was a recent post, Brian Rutenberg.
William Melton Hesley passed away in 1999.
