Nina Tryggvadottir was an abstract painter from Iceland. Nina Tryggvadottir was born in Seyoisfjorour, Iceland in the year 1913. Tryggvadottir attended the Royal Academy of Art located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The artist also studied years later at the Art Student’s League of New York City.

Tryggvadottir worked in several mediums including painting, collage, stained glass, and mosaics.

Although she was considered an abstract artist much of her work is loosely based on the landscape of the Icelandic region.

Nina Tryggvadottir passed away in 1968.

The artist did a great job at using similar shapes that repeat throughout the surface giving the art a great sense of movement. Her “Abstraction” series works are my favorite. These were created in the late fifties and early sixties. These works show a great use of color and very interesting surface texture.
