Marius Kayotak was an early Inuit carver of the male figure doing various tasks including hunting, fishing, and drum dancing. Marius Kayotak was born in the year 1947. He was based out of Igloolik, Nunavut Territory, Canada. Ross Kayotak passed away in 2008.

His wife was also a professional artist named Yvonne Kayotak. Yvonne Kayotak was born in the year 1952. She is based out of Igloolik, Nunavut Territory, Canada. Three of her children went on to professional careers. Her works are similar to her husband and children, many works include female figures doing the basic Inuit tasks including hunting and fishing.

Kayotak often portrays the figure and bears in his work. My favorite work of this artist are his works of the Goddess of the Sea, Sedna.

Another great family of Inuit artists. The faces of these figures show a tremendous attention to detail and use of hand carving to make such intricate designs. Among my favorite things to do as an admirer of art, is to compare how different members of the same artistic family portray similar subjects.
