Mary Abbott is an American Abstract Expressionist painter who flourished during the 1940’s and 1950’s. Mary Abbott was born in New York City in the year 1921. The artist studied at the Art Student’s League of New York City.
Her mother was a poet and newspaper columnist.

Mary Abbott’s work, including that of other women Abstract Expressionist painters, are sometimes overlooked. Lets hope some of the retrospective shows give them much more exposure. Abbott had a wonderful use of color.
