Helen Frankenthaler was an American Abstract Expressionist painter and printmaker. Helen Frankenthaler was born in New York City in the year 1928. She attended the Dalton School located in New York City. She also attended Bennington College located in Vermont.

Frankenthaler is also associated with the Color Field painters.

The artist was renown for using thinned oil paints on an unprepared canvas, this gave her oil paintings the feel of a watercolor piece. Her work was loosely based on the landscape.

Frankenthaler experimented with many mediums including ceramics, sculpture, and book illustration. She also worked as a costume and set designer for England’s Royal Ballet.
