Lee Mullican was an abstract painter. Lee Mullican was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma in the year 1919. The artist worked as a painter, photographer, and with ceramics.

Mullican attended Abilene Christian College in Texas. He also studied at the University of Oklahoma at Norman, and the Kansas City Art Institute.

Mullican was part of the teaching faculty at U.C.L.A.

The artist married a fellow painter named Luchita Hurtado. The couple had two sons. One is a writer and the other a painter.

Mullican was the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship.
