Alex Janvier is a contemporary painter working in a modern style. Alex Janvier was born in Le Goff Reserve, Cold Lake First Nations, Alberta, Canada in the year 1935. The artist is often referred to as the first modernist Canadian painter.
Janvier represents the Dene Suline and Saulteaux nations.
The artist graduated college with honors from what is now the Alberta College of Art and Design.
Janvier also taught at the collegiate level at the University of Alberta.
The artist now runs his own gallery with the help of his family.

What a unique style of abstraction! Awesome to see an artist break away from the norm! Of all First Nations artists profiled his use of color is my favorite. I enjoy the fluidity and motion of his line work.
