Hank Willis Thomas is a contemporary African- American artist renown for his work with text. Hank Willis Thomas was born in Plainfield, New Jersey in the year 1976.
Thomas is known as a conceptual artist creating installations, and also working a great deal with photography.
His mother is a professor of photography at NYU with a rich history of photography and African- Americans. His father is a film producer and has also worked as a real estate developer.
Thomas earned a B.F.A. from the Tisch School of the Arts New York University. Whilst there he studied photography and African studies. The artist went on to earn a M.F.A. and an M.A. from the California College of the Arts.

I enjoy this artist for his variety of statements on Pop culture. In the picture gallery we see a great example what might be a salute to Marilyn Minter, a close up of an African American’s teeth and grill.
Another interesting thought provoking idea was the image of an alcoholic beverage container that had been covered with bullets. The artist exudes a tremendous amount thought in his art.
