Carmen Herrera is contemporary abstract painter who stresses shape and color. Carmen Herrera was born in Havana, Cuba in the year 1915. Her father founded a newspaper where her mom worked as a journalist.
Hats off to this artist for living to be more than 100 years of age! Outstanding!

Carmen Herrera is similar to American folk art painter Grandma Moses who jumped into the art world at an older age than most. Herrera didn’t sell her first work of art until 2004. Until this time she had been an artist, but just painted privately and never exhibited in artwork.
Herrera has works in many prominent collections including the Museum of Modern Art located in New York City and the Tate Modern of London, England.
In 2016 the artist will be given a retrospective show of her career at the Whitney Museum of Art located in New York City.
