Barbara Earl Thomas is a contemporary painter, glass artist, and printmmaker.Her parents were former sharecroppers. Barbara Earl Thomas was born in Seattle, Washington in the year 1948.

Her parents were among the first Southern people in their family that joined the great migration to the northwest.

Thomas attended the University of Washington School of Arts where she earned a B.A. degree in 1973. She went on to post graduate studies at the University of Washington earning a M.F.A. four years later.

Two key mentors for the artist were Jacob Lawrence and Michael Spafford.

Thomas is also a writer.

As a printmaker Thomas often works with the landscape.
