Dick Wray was an American painter working in an Abstract Expressionist style. Dick Wray was born in Houston, Texas in the year 1933. Both of his parents worked for the Union Pacific Railroad Company.
Wray started taking art lessons as a high school teenager at the Houston Museum of Arts. After finishing high school the artist served in the United State’s Army.
Wray received an honorable discharge and began his collegiate studies at the University of Houston where he studied architecture. Wray finished his collegiate career at the Academy of Arts located in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Dick Wray was named artist in residence at Texas A & M University. In this clip a funny story about one of his projects:
Whilst overseas he lived in Germany and Paris. Wray drew inspiration from the Cobra Art Movement. It was in Europe he began to be interested in being an Abstract painter.
The artist was the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.

He was married to a model and photographer named Georgetta Harvey. The couple had 3 kids.
Dick Wray passed away in 2011 from liver disease. He was 77 years of age.

Dick Wray’s style of Abstract painting was very bold and colorful. Some abstract painters worked with limited palettes, but Wray seemed to really enjoying layering his paintings with fantastic and bold color choices.
