Cecily Brown is a British contemporary painter working in an abstract style with the figure. Cecily Brown was born in London, England in the year 1969. Her mother was an author of novels and her father an art critic.
Brown worked in oils, watercolor, and gouache. She is also an avid printmaker.
The artist attended the Epscom School of Art located in Surrey, England. She studied printmaking at Morley College located in Westminster, Englad. Brown received her bacherlor of arts degree from the Slade School of Art in London.

Cecily Brown has a great mix of abstract and figurative styles. Her work with the figure is so different than a traditional painter.
If looking at a John Singer Sargent or Lucien Freud painting we can see the figure instantly from across the room. Brown is such a clever painter the viewer must move closer to the piece in order to find the figure. This is very engaing for the viewer.
