Jean Lacy is a painter of the figure in a modernist style. Her work showcases the African American culture and the urban experience. Lacy works as a painter, collage artist, and stained glass designer.

Jean Lacy was born in Washington D.C. in the year 1932. Lacy earned a bachelor of arts degree from Southern University located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In addition the artist studied at the Otis Institute located in Los Angeles, California.

As a youngster the artist was inspired by the writings of W.E.B. Dubois and Alain Locke. These two authors focused on philosophy and thought.

Lacy married a pastor of the United Methodist Church named Nathaniel Lacy.

Price range information: Sorry none available.

Lacy often focuses on African subjects. Her palette includes a great deal of cadmium colors.

The artist is based out of Dallas, Texas.

Lacy is included in the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art.

I enjoy the artist’s use of line. Her work is similar to another African American painter who moved to Mexico, Elizabeth Catlett.
