Yasumasa Morimura is a contemporary photographer from Japan. Yasumasa Morimura was born in Osaka, Japan in the year 1951.

The artist is renown for his use of appropriations. His style of art takes a well known painting or photograph to which he adds his own style.

Some artists whose images he has used include Frida Kahlo, the French painter Manet, and the photographer Cindy Sherman.

Morimura is a great artist who is not afraid to play the role of women in his appropriations. I consider him close to Warhol in his use of other people’s images in creating his own style.
