Julius Hatofsky was an Abstract Expressionist painter. Julius Hatofsky was born in Ellenville, New York in the year 1922.

Early in his working life Hatofsky was a police officer. The artist also was drafted and served in World War Two.

Hatofsky had an extensive art education. He began with classes given by the Works Progress Administration. The artist also studied at the Art Student’s League in New York City, and with the painter Hans Hofmann. Hatofsky also studied in Paris at the Academie de la Grande Chaumier.

Although the artist had a style all his own, he was inspired by the classical painters including Francisco Goya and Delacroix.

The artist was part of the San Francisco Bay area painters. Hatofsky was a professor at the San Francisco Art Institute for 33 years.
