Yao Lu is a contemporary photographer from China. Yao Lu was born in Beijing, China in the year 1967.
Yao Lu attended the Central Academy of Fine Arts located in Beijing, where he studied printmaking. Lu also studied at Queensland College. He went on to earn a master’s degree in photography.
The artist burst onto the international art scene after a series of works that looks like paintings executed in the style of the painter Hokosai. In reality they are digitally altered photos of landfills and wastelands.

I enjoy the nod to the great Hokosai that is found in his landscape series. By using the landfills as part of his subject matter the artist shows us how ugly items may have an inner more hidden beauty.
