Friedenreich Hundertwasser was a painter from Austria. Friedensreich Hundertwasser was born in the year 1928. Hundertwasser attended the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna.

The artist also designed buildings, stamps, and posters. As an architect he hated straight lines and felt people should personalize their windows. He was given the task to create affordable public housing in Vienna.

His mother was jewish and during World War Two the family pretended to Catholic. The artist even joined the Hitler youth program.

In 1975 the artist moved from Europe to New Zealand. He purchased several properties and joined them together. He could live self sufficiently growing his own food and developing an energy source from solar panels.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser passed away in 2000 after having a heart attack.

Below a montage of works by Hundertwasser:

Hundertwasser designed a flag for the country of New Zealand.

Price range information: The artist worked in many mediums including oils, watercolors, and was a prolific printmaker. Prices range from $5,000 to $450,000.

What a fun style of art! Hundertwasser brings to mind the creative Salvador Dali. Dali had an incredibly creative mind and worked across many mediums. Dali’s house is my favorite artist’s house with Hundertwasser’s being a close second! Love the rooftop garden idea!
