Thomas Demand is a contemporary photographer and sculptor from Germany. Thomas Demand was born in Munich, Germany in the year 1964. Demand is renown for creating small models of real places using papers and cardboard. As his photographs are taken from a close viewpoint, the images seem to be lifesize.

Demand attended the Akademie der Bildenen located in Munich. He also attended the Cite des Artes located in Paris, and Goldsmith’s College located in London.

Price range information: Works range from $10,000 to $300,000.

Demand began his artistic career as a sculptor.

The artist is currently a professor at the Univeristy of Hamburg.

One commission included a model of the President’s Oval Office.

After finishing his models and photographing them the artist destroys them.

Demand’s work can be found in many prominant collections including the Museum of Modern Art located in New York City, and the Tate Gallery located in London, England.

In recent years Demand has began to experiment with the medium of film.

Two artists who inspired him are Gerhard Richter and Ed Ruscha.

In this clip we follow Thomas Demand as he prepares for his first solo exhibition in Berlin:

What a great idea! Another artist who works in a similar style is my favorite photographer, Slinkachu. Slinkachu also creates miniature works but his work often includes figures in humorous situations.
