Charles Houghton Howard was an American painter whose style was a mixture of abstraction and surrealism. Charles Houghton Howard was born in Montclair, New Jersey in the year 1899.

Howard attended the University of California at Berkeley. The artist went on to post graduate studies at the Harvard and Columbia University. At this stage in his life Howard wanted to be a journalist and was focusing on his writing skills.

The artist had no formal art education.
