Markus Lüpertz is a contemporary painter and sculptor associated with the Neo-Expressionist movement. Markus Lüpertz was born in Liberac, Bohemia in the year 1941. This region is now called the Czech Republic.
The artist’s family migrated to Rheydt, Germany in the year 1948. Lupertz went on to attend college at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld and the Kunstakademie both located in Düsseldorf, Germany. After attending the first college the artist worked for one year before finishing college at the Kunstakademie.
Lüpertz has also worked as a theater set designer.
