Kohei Nawa is a contemporary mixed media artist from Japan. Kohei Nawa was born in Osaka, Japan in the year 1975. Nawa often tries to get the viewer to see a subject in different light.
Nawa attended Kyoto City University of Art where he earned a B.A. in sculpture. He went on to earn a masters degree and a PhD from Kyoto City University. Through an exchange program he also studied at the Royal College of Art in London, England.

Nawa started an art collective that is based out of an old sandwich factory. The group takes on large design tasks. The collective is called SANDWICH and was started in 2009.

One critically acclaimed series by Nawa is called Pixel Cell. The artist covers an object with glass beads which creates what Nawa calls “a husk of light.”
Another well received series is called “Trans”. This work deals with sculptures created from a mixture of 3d scanning and texture mapping.
Kohei’s work is very unique. A form of sculpture that is not based on traditional materials thus offering us more intake on current cultural trends of society.
