Lubaina Himid is a contemporary painter of the face and figure from Great Britain. Lubaina Himid was born in the Sultanate of Zanzibar. Himid emphasizes cultural history in her work.

Himid attended the Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal College of Art.

The artist is now a professor at the University of Central Lancashire.

Himid won the prestigious Turner Prize in 2017. She became the first non-white person to win the award.

In this clip a brief interview with the artist talking her work:

She was appointed as a M.B.E. in 2010 for her contributions to the field.

First off congratulations to the oldest winner of the Turner Prize! I enjoy her style of drawing and creating cutouts. I found her work similar to that of Jacob Lawrence for his style of painting people. Her method of using cutouts reminds me of artist Red Grooms.
