Semiha Berksoy was an accomplished visual artist and a Turkish Opera Singer. Semiha Berksoy was born in Istanbul, Turkey in the year 1910.
Her father was a painter and a poet. Her mother was a painter named Fatma Saime. Her mother died from the Spanish flu when the artist was only eight year old.
Berksoy was raised in a very musical family. The artist kept singing until the mid 1970’s. In 1965 Berksoy made her debut a visual artist.
In her later years the artist was bedridden due to illness, and during this time she transformed her room into a work of art. This room was transplanted as a main exhibit at the 2005 Venice Biennial.
