The artist was born Steven John Hamper in Chatham, Kent, England in the year 1959. Childish attended the Medway School of Art located in London. Childish also studied at St. Martin’s School of Art.

Billy Childish is an awesome painter of the figure. I find that looking at self portraits of painters is very intriguing, Childish and Rembrandt often used themselves as a muse.
The artist has a great sense of design. His work reminds me of artists from the Pattern and Decoration movement.
