Charles Catteau was an internationally renown industrial designer. Charles Catteau was born in Douai, France in the year 1880.
Catteau attended the National Ceramics School and the National Portrait School both located in Sévres, France.
The artist worked for the Ecole Nationale des Sevres as a ceramics director. During this time in his career his works were more traditional in their appearance. Catteau worked this job for a short period of time before taking a design position in Munich, Germany.
Catteau would eventually end up in Belgium working for the company Boch Freres. This company would help to establish him as a great industrial designer worldwide.
The artist is associated with the Art Déco movement.

Although he used some of the same subjects and patterns found in many works from the Art- Deco time period, Catteau’s work stands out because of his wonderful use of color. With his bold colorful palette I find Catteau’s work reminds of the great Maija Isola.
