April Surgent is a contemporary glass artist renown for her etchings of the landscape. April Surgent was born in Missoula, Montana.Surgent is also an accomplished photographer.
The artist earned a B.F.A. in glass from the Australian National University located in Canberra.
Surgent was inspired to work in glass by Czech master Jiri Harcuba. Harcuba was renown for etchings of the human face. Surgent studied with Harcuba at the Pilchuck Glass School.

It’s interesting to compare the works of Dale Chihuly, April Surgent, and Jiri Harcuba. Glass is a very versatile medium this is apparent in the work of these masters. Surgent’s work has a quiet dreamlike feeling. Her work reminds me of painter and printmaker Richard Kipniss.
