At the early part of his career the artist often created works of people in the nude. As his career progressed the artist began dressing them in white shirt, dark pants, or plain dresses.
The artist splits his time between Karlsruhe, Germany and Meisenthal, France. Balkenhol has worked as a professor at the Akademie fur Bildende Kunste since 1992.
