Corinne Michelle West was an Abstract Expressionist painter from the United States. Corinne West was born in Chicago, Illinois in the year 1908.
The artist also went by Mikael and Michael West.
West began her collegiate career at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She finished her education at the Cincinnati Art Academy.
She also studied with Hans Hoffman. West also took courses dealing with commercial art at the Traphagen School of Fashion.

West worked with oil pastels, oil paints, and enamel.
The artist began using Mikael rather than Corinne to help overcome the blatant sexism that existed at that time in the Art World. Arshille Gorky convinced her that using Mikael would be preferred over Corinne.
Below some great Abstract paintings set to music. West’s work is shown at the 20 second mark of the clip:
West was also one of the first female Action painters.
Early in her career West experimented with the art of calligraphy. She also enjoyed writing poetry.
Corinne West passed away in 1991.
Corinne West is finally being given her due as an accomplished Abstract painter. I enjoy her work as she often uses a full palette with a large amount of black.
