Phyllis Yes is a Contemporary American artist who played a role in the feminist movement in the United States.Phyllis Yes was born in Red Wing, Minnesota in the year 1941.
Yes earned a B.A. from Luther College located in Decorah, Iowa. She went on to earn a M.A. from University of Minnesota. Yes went on to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon.
After earning her Ph.D. she changed her last name to Yes so that she could be addressed as Doctor Yes.
Yes enjoys painting on unique surfaces including saws and even cars. She hand painted a Porsche that she drove across the country to promote one of her shows. The car was a 1960s Porsche she fixed it up her way in 1984. She then drove it across the country the following year. Yes and her assistants spent more than 600 hours airbrushing the lace pattern seen on the vehicle.
The artist often likes to make reference to gender stereotypes in her work. Two artists that were very influential to Yes were Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro. (Both of these artists have been written about on my other website.)
Yes has also taught at the collegiate level in the United States and also in Brazil.
Yes is now based out of Portland, Oregon.
