Beth Van Hoesen was an American painter and printmaker. Beth van Hoesen was born in Boise, Idaho in the year 1926.
Van Hoesen was renown for her animal portraits. She also created landscapes and botanical studies.
The artist earned a bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University. After graduation she continued her studies abroad in France at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Fontainbleau, and the Academie de la Grande Chaumier. She also studied back in the United State at the California School of Fine Arts.
Works by Beth Van Hoesen can be found in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Portland Art Museum.
She was married to a fellow artist named Mark Adams. The couple hosted a weekly drawing group that include such stalwart professionals as Wayne Thiebaud.

Beth Van Hoesen had a wonderful sense of design in her artwork. She was great at portraying animals, their emotions and especially their hair. Her plain backgrounds help draw focus to the subject matter.
