In 2002 work by the artist was chosen for the famous Whitney Biennial.
Margaret Kilgallen was a fantastic artist who passed away at such an early age. Her line work and compositions are very similar to her husband, Barry McGee. Both she and her husband captured people’s various expressions with only a few strokes.
Many historians group her with folk art, but I find her compositions and drawing skills to be far better than other painters who had similar folk art styles of painting such as Clementine Hunter or Grandma Moses.
