Daphne Odjig was a First Nations Artist from Canada. Daphne Odjig was born in Wiikwemkoong, Ontario, Canada in the year 1919. The artist represented the Odawa-Potawatomi Nation.
She enjoyed creating art from an early age. One source of inspiration was her grandfather who was an engraver of tombstones.
During World War Two the artist moved to Toronto, Canada to work in the factories. Whilst living in Toronto she made regular trips to the Royal Museum as other private galleries.
When the war was finished the artist relocated to Manitoba, Canada where she founded an organization that helped to support indigenous artists.
Price range information: Odjig worked in acrylics, oils, ink, and crayon and was an avid printmaker. Works range from $3,000 to $75,000.
