Corey Moraes is a contemporary First Nations artist. Corey Moraes was born in Seattle, Washington in the year 1970.
Moraes is considered a self taught artist. He has worked with Kwakwaka’wakw artist Dwayne Simeon.
The artist represents the Tsimshian peoples. Moraes represents the Raven clan.
One of the first jobs the artist had was painting canoes.
Moraes began working as an artist when he was in his mid- twenties. No one in his family had an artistic background.
Moraes creates jewelry, boxes , rattles, masks, and prints.
Price range information: Prints can be found for $150 and up. Many jewelry pieces priced between $500 and $3,000.
Corey Moraes is fantastic example of contemporary First Nations Art. It’s awesome to see so many younger First Nations artists mastering printmaking and making jewelry. He has an outstanding sense of graphic design with his jewelry pieces. My favorite works are his earrings with a moon theme.
